THE SEARCH by Clair M Poulson

THE SEARCH by Clair M Poulson. This is one of the better suspense novels I've read of Poulson's. The prologue was incredible gripping and I couldn't wait to get into the story. The next few chapters were on the slow side. It felt info dumpy, yet at the same time it was done in the way of an interview and the information was necessary for the story. Part of me wishes he would have done it in a different way though. Once the story got moving, it was great. I loved the snarkiness of Jayden, and the relationship between Jayden and Nadia felt real. I especially loved reading about Bullet, Jayden's partner. The list of suspects is long, but as they weave through each one, it left me wondering until the very end, if I had gotten it correct. This is a great suspense novel that has a little bit of romantic elements in it. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good suspense.

:) :) :) :)

Young private investigator Jayden Spaulding has cracked his share of tough cases, but nothing like this one.
When stunning professional basketball player Nadia Fairchild walks through his door, her story seems simple enough: two days ago, her mother disappeared along with a member of the women’s college basketball team she coached. Jayden and Nadia delve into a baffling maze of motive and opportunity with a lengthy list of possible suspects.
As they work together amid their growing attraction to one another, the unlikely duo seems no closer to discovering the truth. Then the threats begin. Soon, the pair begins to suspect that this case is much more complicated than a simple disappearance—they have unwittingly stumbled on a conspiracy of corruption, greed, and murder far more deadly than they ever imagined.
Others are also searching for the missing women, and they will eliminate anyone who stands in their way . . .

KING OF THE FRIEND ZONE by Sheralyn Pratt

King of the Friend ZoneThe King of the Friend Zone by Sheralyn Pratt
I'm excited about this one!

Esme Taylor has an amazing fiancé, a lifelong best friend, and a problem. The problem stems from the fact that her best friend is named Hunter and, well. . .he’s kind of (totally) hot. It’s hate at first sight when her fiancé, Jon, and Hunter meet. Jon’s convinced that Hunter is in love with Esme, and that Hunter must be out of the picture if their upcoming marriage is to succeed. Esme thinks Jon is paranoid. The truth is, Jon’s not that far off. Hunter is in love with his best friend and always has been. What Jon has wrong, however, is that Hunter never had any plans of ruining Esme’s happily ever after. Hunter wants what’s best for Esme, even if that’s not him. When Jon pushes hard to end Esme and Hunter’s friendship, opposition comes from the most unlikely of places. It’s an eccentric lady with a cookie cart who suggests a different solution to Esme’s problem: Hunter and Esme should give each other a chance. They’ve both thought of the possibility over the years—of course they have. But with a ring already on Esme’s finger and a heap of hurt feelings and broken trust in the mix, there hasn’t been a worse time to explore the depths of their feelings for each other. Both Esme and Hunter think it’s time to move on and leave childhood crushes in the past. The question is: Can one woman and the taste of one cookie change their minds?

Sheralynadd to goodreads   Author Sheralyn Pratt
Some describe Sheralyn as a girl who's been around the block and worked at every shop. This isn't far from the truth. Writing is what she loves most, however. There's a magical power in stepping into new perspectives time and again, and seeing the world through different eyes. Few things increase empathy more than walking in another's shoes for 100,000 words or so. At least that seems to be the trend so far.
Some random things to know about Sheralyn: * She's a wanderer (geographically) * She can write a novel, but doesn't have the attention span for one page in a journal * She vehemently disagrees with Stephen King's stance that authors should not watch TV * She is pretty much incapable of sleeping before midnight

MYSTERIES OF COVE: FIRE OF INVENTION by J Scott Savage

FIRE OF INVENTION by J Scott Savage. I'm really excited about this upcoming book. Be sure to keep your eyes open for this one!

Book Description:
STEAMPUNK! Plus Dragons!
Trenton Colman is a creative thirteen-year-old boy with a knack for all things mechanical. But his talents are viewed with suspicion in Cove, a steam-powered city built inside a mountain. In Cove, creativity is a crime and "invention" is a curse word. Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and daughter of the notorious Leo Babbage, whose father died in an explosion-an event the leaders of Cove point to as an example of the danger of creativity.

Working together, Trenton and Kallista learn that Leo Babbage was developing a secret project before he perished. Following clues he left behind, they begin to assemble a strange machine that is unlikely anything they've ever seen before. They soon discover that what they are building may threaten every truth their city is founded on-and quite possibly their very lives.

Author Note:
Like many of my books, the inspiration for my new series Fires of Invention came from the collision of two ideas. The first time the story occurred to me was while I was watching the musical Wicked with my wife. The moment I walked into the theater and saw the huge mechanical dragon above the stage, I thought, Wow! I have to write a story about that! A few weeks later, I was talking with my nephew, who is probably the most creative kid I know, but whose inventiveness often gets him into trouble, and I thought, What if a kid who had the talents of my nephew lived in a world where creativity was against the law? What if the kids were building . . . a steam-powered dragon? Bam! I had my story.

Powered by great feedback from my agent, Michael Bourret, my good friend and author James Dashner, my publisher, Chris Schoebinger, and the song “Warriors” by Imagine Dragons, I wrote the entire first draft of the first volume in the series, Mysteries of Cove in four weeks. This book is unlike anything I have ever written. There are elements of City of Ember, Dragon Riders, and Hugo in it all mashed up together in a world I fell in love with from the moment I started writing.

I think what’s most exciting to me about this book is that it’s about giving yourself the freedom to imagine. To take chances. Too often we limit ourselves by only trying things we’re confident we can succeed at when what we need to do is give ourselves permission to fail. Often it is when we attempt things with no idea of how we can possibly pull them off that we achieve our greatest successes.

BAKED ALASKA by Josi Kilpack--Book Review & Interview

BAKED ALASKA by Josi S Kilpack. I love Josi's books and BAKED ALASKA is no exception. Since I've always wanted to take an Alaskan cruise, I found this book a treat. I felt like I was on the cruise with Sadie, Pete, and her kids. I loved the subtle twists and turns the story took, and the ending was perfect. I can't wait to see what the next installment will be. This is a great book for anyone who loves to travel, loves a good mystery, loves food, and/or loves to read. I'd recommend it for any and everyone of all ages.

:) :) :) :) :)

An Alaskan cruise is the setting for amateur detective Sadie Hoffmillers latest adventure. Sadie plans to spend time relaxing with her two grown children, Breanna and Shawn, and her boyfriend, Pete, while enjoying the luxury and cuisine of an elegant cruise ship and helping to plan her daughters upcoming wedding. But even as the crew prepares to leave port, Sadie has suspicions about the voyage ahead and the relationship between her normally easygoing son and a mysterious female passenger he obviously knows but refuses to discuss. When the woman is discovered unconscious during the second night at sea, Sadies apprehension escalates. Over the last few years, Sadie has developed an extreme dislike for secrets and it would seem her son is keeping one from her. *Includes eight new mouthwatering recipes, tested and approved by the official bakers of Sadies Virtual Test Kitchen.

What made you decide to become a writer?
Well, the totally honest but somewhat cheeky answer is that I decided to become a writer because I was on bedrest and dead bored! At least that's when I started my first book, but I don't think I made the 'decision' to become a "writer" until that book was done and I looked at it in awe and said "I wrote a book! By myself! Now what do I do with it?"
That was the beginning of a journey that has had a lot of twists and turns and potholes and vistas and yet at the end of each phase I find myself looking forward and thinking "Yeah, this is what I want to do." and I push on.

Who inspires you?
People who make sacrifices to achieve their goals, accomplish great things, and find joy in their journey. Whether it's in volunteer work or gardening or art or parenting--you can tell a difference in people who are making active choices toward doing what they love and that inspires me more than anything else.

What would you like your readers to get out of your writing?
I hope they have a good time. I hope by the time they put down the book they have a smile on their face and enjoyed the journey they took. It would be awesome if they also led to world peace and puppies for everyone, but, really, my books are entertainment and I hope the readers are entertained.

Where did this idea come from?
Since this is book nine in the series, it has eight books before it. I am always mindful of not wanting to tell the same story over and over again, which means finding something fresh and different for each book that I write. Setting this story on a cruise ship was the 'new' element and presented new challenges and opportunities that kept this story fresh. It has also been a few books since we have seen Sadie's family up close, so this story put them in the center ring.

Who was your favorite character to develop?
There's a young woman named Maggie who has an interesting history and came into the story as someone with a lot of considerations. I absolutely fell in love with her and enjoyed seeing her grow as the story did.

Any advice for aspiring authors?
Learn your craft, attend conferences, make writer friends, be a part of the writing community, pray for help finding time, pray for help finding missing elements, enjoy the process, celebrate successes, celebrate the successes of others.

What can we expect next from you?
I am currently working on book 10, Rocky Road. It's set in Utah and has been a lot of fun to write. It should come out in the fall of 2013.

Where can we purchase your book?
www.deseretbook.comamazon.combarnesandnoble.com, and most bookstores in Utah and Idaho.

THANK YOU, JOSI!

Book Reviews and Such

It's been quite a week or two. Last week, my computer died . . . again. So we ended up with a new computer. Then my car decided to get sick. Two trips to the repair shop later, it's feeling better and we're beginning to think a new car will be added to the family by the end of next year. (We're trying to coax another 30,000 miles out of it to reach 200,000. Think we'll make it?) Needless to say, last week was an expensive week.

On the upside, I had the opportunity of going to an ANWA (American Night Writer's Association) writing retreat. I met so many wonderful ladies, many of which I knew from online but have never met face-to-face before, attended fabulous classes and best of all got new books. The only downside to that is I have library books that are coming close to being due and a book I borrowed from my sister-in-law forever ago that I love, it's just taking me sometime to get through, that I need to finish. Sigh. It'll get done soon.

I will be sharing tidbits from the classes I attended at the retreat on a later date. Today there are some book reviews I wanted to post. One of which is in the middle of a blog tour this week.

The first is Courting Miss Lancaster by Sarah M. Eden. What a delightful read. It captured my interest on the first page and I couldn't put it down. I loved the whit and humor throughout the book. I loved the sweet story line and the writing was beautifully done. It had me laughing out loud, which is quite an accomplis
hment since I don't remember the last time a book has done that for me. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, well-written, wond
erful story. I'm looking forward to what Sarah comes out with next.

Two--Chocolate Roses by Joan Sowards. This Jane Eyre parody is delightful. Now, I have to admit that I haven't read Jane Eyre so it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but wonderful still the same. It's a love story with a little mystery and intrigue thrown in. I would recommend this book to anyone. Joan's in the middle of a blog tour with many chances to win her wonderful book. Here are some of the places she's headed. Take a look!

March book releases

There are a ton of fabulous books coming out in March that beginning tomorrow I'm going to start buzzin' about. I'm also going to post about the wonderful ANWA writers conference I was able to attend. There were authors such as Aprilynne Pike (Wings) and J. Scott Savage (Farworld)there that had wonderful things to share in their classes. Those are going to start coming too. I'm really excited about it all!
