CONFESSIONS OF A MOM #choosekindness #51actsofkindness

What? It's Friday night again? I just cleared my phone of all pictures because the nasty message that my storage was almost full and I couldn't take pictures anymore kept popping up. So I have no pictures to share.

I'm feeling very out of sorts at the moment and I tend to blame that on no sleep. However, I had a great time at a writing conference last weekend and should have insights to share from that, but do you think I can even remember that far back? Nope.

All I can think of right now is noticing all the little acts of kindness that have happened to me. We had a flat tire that needed to be repaired. I had an appointment but there were still five people in front of me. So as I got my kids settled and I stood in line, the gentleman in front of me offered to let me go first. It was so kind of him.

Several people held the door for me as Tigger pushed Bear through in the stroller a couple of times. Rather than get irritated with the curiousity of Tigger, I found smiles on people's faces. It made our wait much more pleasant.

It doesn't take much to brighten someone's day. Look for those opportunities to be kind, and also, look for those acts of kindness that have been given to you.

MOSES CHRONICLES: BONDAGE by H B Moore— #bookreview #review #amreading

MOSES CHRONICLES: BONDAGE by H. B. Moore. This book sounded fascinating, and it was. I enjoyed reading about this time in history and particularly this story. However, even though I know it was accurate to the era, I didn't like all the innuendos. For some reason it put a beloved story into a different light for me. As long as I was able to kept my perspective on the historical fiction part of it, I enjoyed the read. It is a fascinating story that most people will love.

:) :) :) :

Moses has always felt like an outsider in his powerful Egyptian family, even though his close relationship with Ramses, the prince of Egypt, and their cousin Pentu keeps him entwined in the dealings of royalty. But when their youthful antics get them in trouble, the Pharaoh decides it’s time for all three of them to grow up and own their respective responsibilities. Now betrothed to a woman he cares nothing for, Moses wonders where his life is headed.

Miriam, a Hebrew slave, lives with a secret she cannot share with anyone. And though it has been eighteen years since she saved her baby brother, she is constantly getting in trouble for spying on him. In a desperate attempt to control Miriam, her older brother, Aaron, and her father look to find her a husband, something Miriam has never been interested in—until Caleb, a young, handsome man, confesses his feelings for her and asks her father for her hand in marriage.
When Libya advances on Egypt, Moses and Miriam are suddenly thrown together as the Egyptian royals and soldiers flee. Hebrew slaves are forced to defend the kingdom, and Miriam and Caleb are enlisted under Moses’s direction. Moses quickly sees there is more to this downtrodden people than what he’s been taught. When he witnesses the atrocities enacted against the slaves, he realizes he must leave—he must find out who he really is.
A gripping account of the events that lead to Moses’s flight into the wilderness, The Moses Chronicles: Bondage will take you back to a rich period of history replete with scandal, strife, love, and hope as God prepares a prophet to lead His chosen people.

MYSTERIES OF COVE: FIRE OF INVENTION by J Scott Savage

FIRE OF INVENTION by J Scott Savage. I'm really excited about this upcoming book. Be sure to keep your eyes open for this one!

Book Description:
STEAMPUNK! Plus Dragons!
Trenton Colman is a creative thirteen-year-old boy with a knack for all things mechanical. But his talents are viewed with suspicion in Cove, a steam-powered city built inside a mountain. In Cove, creativity is a crime and "invention" is a curse word. Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and daughter of the notorious Leo Babbage, whose father died in an explosion-an event the leaders of Cove point to as an example of the danger of creativity.

Working together, Trenton and Kallista learn that Leo Babbage was developing a secret project before he perished. Following clues he left behind, they begin to assemble a strange machine that is unlikely anything they've ever seen before. They soon discover that what they are building may threaten every truth their city is founded on-and quite possibly their very lives.

Author Note:
Like many of my books, the inspiration for my new series Fires of Invention came from the collision of two ideas. The first time the story occurred to me was while I was watching the musical Wicked with my wife. The moment I walked into the theater and saw the huge mechanical dragon above the stage, I thought, Wow! I have to write a story about that! A few weeks later, I was talking with my nephew, who is probably the most creative kid I know, but whose inventiveness often gets him into trouble, and I thought, What if a kid who had the talents of my nephew lived in a world where creativity was against the law? What if the kids were building . . . a steam-powered dragon? Bam! I had my story.

Powered by great feedback from my agent, Michael Bourret, my good friend and author James Dashner, my publisher, Chris Schoebinger, and the song “Warriors” by Imagine Dragons, I wrote the entire first draft of the first volume in the series, Mysteries of Cove in four weeks. This book is unlike anything I have ever written. There are elements of City of Ember, Dragon Riders, and Hugo in it all mashed up together in a world I fell in love with from the moment I started writing.

I think what’s most exciting to me about this book is that it’s about giving yourself the freedom to imagine. To take chances. Too often we limit ourselves by only trying things we’re confident we can succeed at when what we need to do is give ourselves permission to fail. Often it is when we attempt things with no idea of how we can possibly pull them off that we achieve our greatest successes.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE by Karen Tuft— #bookreview #amreading #reviews

TROUBLE IN PARADISE by Karen Tuft. This was surprising read in that it was faster than I expected. It made me smile. It made me laugh. I really enjoyed the character development for both Andy and Kimberly. There was a twist in there that I thought I had figured out, and it turned out I was wrong. That's refreshing.   Some of the Hawaiian language I didn't understand, but it was used in such a way that I was able to mostly figure things out. It's a good, clean, read that I can recommend to anyone.

:) :) :) :)

Andy Kendrick has always dreamed of bigger things than tiny Eagle Bluff, Arizona. So when the opportunity arises to shake off the dust of his hometown and move to the tropical paradise of Hawaii, he grabs it. But he never imagined that a piece of his past would follow him to his new life . . . Kimberly Briggs has lived her life on the fringes of the crowd, timid and afraid since the death of her brother, but when she learns that Andy, her lifelong crush, is moving to Hawaii, she’s finally ready to step out of the shadows and take a risk. Kimberly is the last person Andy expected—or wanted—to see in Hawaii, but when fate incessantly throws the pair together, there’s little to be done but make the best of the situation. As the awkwardness fades and Kimberly begins to emerge from her shell, Andy realizes there’s much more to her than he realized. But even as they revel in the adventures of island life, drawn together by a growing attraction, an unforeseen peril threatens Kimberly’s life. Can the once-timid young woman now draw upon the inner strength Andy has helped her discover so the two of them can build a life together? Will Andy grasp that love knows no geographical bounds?

CONFESSIONS OF A MOM #choosekindness #51actsofkindness

Be kind.
It's amazing what can happen we are civil to each other, even if we disagree.
Just be kind.
Most often that kindess will be reciprecated.
It may not be immediate, but people remember.
Speak kindly of others, people remember the words we say.
I have found myself looking for ways to do little acts of kindness.
It has changed my view of my day.
Be kind.

EXTREME MEASURES by Michele Ashman Bell— #reviews #amreading @micheleabell

EXTREME MEASURES by Michele Ashman Bell. What a ride this book was. Michele did a fabulous job at creating such a suspenseful story that kept the pages turning. It's amazing the true motivation behind Margaret's actions. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to read it, less than an afternoon. I did feel like Emma was a little too weak in the beginning of the story, but she did have great character growth. I can't recommend this book for younger readers, but it's a great suspense novel for those who love a page turner.

:) :) :) :

Following the trauma of her estranged husband’s untimely death, Emma Lowell is happy with the life she has rebuilt for herself. She’s engaged to a wonderful man and anticipates a fresh start, free from her troubled past. Only one persistent obstacle remains: Margaret Lowell, her former mother-in-law. Margaret continues to be a demanding presence in Emma’s life, and her requests have become increasingly disconcerting. When Margaret asks Emma to accompany her on a sentimental journey to the family’s mountain cabin, the young woman reluctantly agrees. After all, her fiancé is out of town. No one will miss her. Emma could never have suspected the horror that awaits in the snow-bound cabin, for beneath Margaret Lowell’s elderly façade lies a sinister and terrifying nature—and a plot born of insanity. Alarmed by the dark plan that unfolds, Emma struggles to escape the isolated cabin in a chilling game of cat and mouse. As the danger escalates, and with little hope of rescue, Emma must engage in a battle of wills if she is to avoid becoming the final piece in Margaret’s twisted puzzle . . .

CONFESSIONS OF A MOM #choosekindness #51actsofkindness

This week I decided to read several articles and pay a little more attention to what's going on in the adult world. I have to admit that part of me wants to just get lots in the little kid world again. My heart aches for all the tragedy and horrible things that are happening. It solidified in my mind the need to be kind to others. We just don't know . . . We don't know what they are struggling with. We don't know if they hardly ever hear kind words. We don't know the real reason behind the hard exterior. We just don't know.

Make the choice this week to be kinder. Encourage those around you to be kind. Do a small act of kindness for someone. Not only will it help them, but it will help you as well. #choosekindness
