Book Buzzin' Tuesday--Pumpkin Roll

Pumpkin Roll by Josi Kilpack. I know I've buzzed this one before, but I'm really excited about it. And . . . she has an amazing IPad contest going on right now. Click here for more details on the contest (there are several easy ways to enter) and take a look at the blurb about Josi's new book!

Sadie Hoffmiller is looking forward to spending her favorite baking season of the year making delicious New England recipes in Boston, Massachusetts, with her favorite leading man, Pete Cunningham, as they babysit his three young grandsons. But when the boys insist that Mrs. Wapple, the woman who lives across the street, is a witch, Sadie and Pete are anxious to distract the boys from such Halloween-induced ideas. However, it gets harder and harder to explain the strange things that keep happening, particularly after Sadie learns the eccentric Mrs. Wapple has been attacked in her home.

As the unexplained occurrences escalate, Sadie finds herself embroiled in yet another mystery with life-or-death consequences. Can Sadie discover whoever—or whatever—is behind the mystery before anyone else gets hurt? Or will this be Sadie’s last case?

Treasure Hunt/Book Buzzin'

Possession by Elena Johnson is available today! It's an excited book about being in control or controlled that is sure to be just as thrilling as the author herself. I'll have the back cover blurb in a moment.

First, I'm participating in a Bloghop hosted by Nicole Giles, Ali Cross and Windy Aphayrath. The first incident I thought of where I broke the rules was when I took a girlfriend to a guy's house that she had a crush on (I really liked him too, but she didn't know that). We stayed out WAY past curfew. So late I ended up with a police escort home. *Sigh* the things we did for guys we liked. Anyway, here's the back cover blurb for Possession:

Vi knows the Rule: Girls don't walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn...and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi's future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.

But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they're set on convincing Vi to become one of them...starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can't leave Zenn in the Thinkers' hands, but she's wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous--everything Zenn's not. Vi can't quite trust Jag and can't quite resist him, but she also can't give up on Zenn.

This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

Treasure Hunt/ANWA

By Bonnie Harris

With Memorial Day last week, I've been thinking a lot about those people who have served and currently serve in the military. Both of my grandpa's served, I have an uncle that's retired and another currently on active duty as well as a cousin. Then my neighbor is leaving on Monday for boot camp. I think of some of my friends who are and have served and the conversations I've had with them. I think about the hardships that each member of military and their families have and my heart goes out to them. Here are a few bits of conversations from various friends and family that keep running through my head. I don't think I'll get it verbatim, but I don't think that's important.

He was showing me and my roommates a picture of his platoon before they were deployed. 'This one no longer has his legs. This one didn't come home. This one lost and arm. He didn't come home. Neither did he. He's still there. He died. He died.' All in all there were only three or four members of his platoon that came home, none were completely whole. A very sobering moment for me.

'It doesn't matter if I agree or disagree with the President or even the reason to be other there. He [the president] is my Commander in Chief and I will support him in his decisions.'

'I can't describe what it was like over there, or the way those people looked at us like we were heaven sent.'

'I'm serving because someone has to defend our right to make good and bad decisions.'

My grandpa never talked about his experience in the war. He only ever admitted to firing his weapon. I've since learned of his extreme involvement and high ranking.

I just finished reading Donna Hatch's Queen in Exile and really liked the growth in perspective of the Queen in her learning the purpose of a warrior. Her conclusion was that we need warriors to protect us. They don't necessarily enjoy taking life, but when a bloodthirsty man is out there, someone needs to have the ability and skill to defend the innocent.

That's our military. Highly, trained, professionals willing to sacrifice everything to defend our freedoms. As much criticism as war gets and knowing the potential cost of entering the military I am extremely grateful for those willing to fight of our rights. Where else do we have the freedom to write what we want without fear of repercussion? Where else can we express our opinions freely? Where else do we have the freedoms we have?

I am touched every time I see a flag flying or a person in military uniform or hear stories of what is happening because of our military. THANK YOU to all of those past and present that are serving in the military.

GOD BLESS THE USA

Treasure Hunt/Book Review-for one more day

for one more day by Mitch Albom. The back cover blurb began with "Every family has a ghost story . . ." That statement ran through my mind the entire book and by the end realized how true the statement is. This wonderful story is about the relationship of parents with their child. I loved it from the beginning to the end. It really made me think about my relationships, not only with my parents, but with everyone around me. It is very thought provoking and I would recommend it to mid-teens and up. This is taken from Albom's website:

“Every family is a ghost story . . .”
As a child, Charley “Chick” Benetto was told by his father, “You can be a mama’s boy or a daddy’s boy, but you can’t be both.” So he chooses his father, only to see the man disappear when Charley is on the verge of adolescence. Decades later, Charley is a broken man. His life has been crumbled by alcohol and regret. He loses his job. He leaves his family. He hits bottom after discovering his only daughter has shut him out of her wedding. And he decides to take his own life. He makes a midnight ride to his small hometown, with plans to do himself in. But upon failing even to do that, he staggers back to his old house, only to make an astonishing discovery. His mother -- who died eight years earlier -- is still living there, and welcomes him home as if nothing ever happened.

Summer Treasure Hunt/Work In Progress/Mary Kay Sale

This is a triple post! First off, revisions for Encoded Secrets are going really well. I think I've come up with a better hook for my query letter. "When Georgie's dad disappears yet again, she
is determined to find him while treading through a deadly family legacy." What do you think? Anyway, I'm still plotting out The Black Orchid too. I'm hoping my little one will give me some longer naps soon so I can really get working on them.

Second, this month's Mary Kay Sale (I know, I haven't done them in awhile, but I'm asking for forgiveness *grin*) is anything to do with the sun. On my website there is a tab marked Body and Sun. Anything under Sun Protection is 20% off. Now, if you're a follower of this blog, you get 5% off your entire order. Order by the 5th of the month for an additional 10% off your sun protection items. Order by the 15th for 5% off. So you have to potential of 35% off the Sun Protection and a guaranteed 5% your entire order just for following my blog.

Now here's the summer treasure hunt info: Don't forget, each participate would love you to follow their blog. :) Have fun and happy digging.
