THE SANTA BOX MOVIE

THE SANTA BOX

What a great way to begin the Christmas season. I watched this with my family, and all but my two-year-old (he lasted about 15 minutes which for him is a LONG time) sat through the entire thing. Afterward, my oldest admitted that it almost made him cry in a couple of parts. The story did a great job at showing what the giving side of Christmas is like and how a person can grow by looking for ways to help others. It also gives a good glimpse into bullies and how to possible get along with them, as well as what can happen when people don't take the time to get to know someone before making judgements. I love that we have this movie to add to our Christmas movie collection.

:) :) :) :)

For 12-year-old Kallie Watts, Christmas is anything but merry. For the last five years, the tinsel-strewn holiday has spelled disaster for her family, so when an apartment fire leaves Kallie and her widowed mother homeless just in time for the holidays, it comes as no surprise. There’s only one logical conclusion: Kallie is cursed by Christmas.

When her mother finds a new job in a small California town, Kallie steps out of the moving van and into her worst nightmare: a real-life version of “Whoville,” overflowing with holiday decorations and brimming with Christmas cheer. Forced to navigate the complicated ins and outs of her jolly new surroundings, Kallie is shaken out of her gloom one day when she discovers an ornately carved wooden Santa box on the porch, addressed to her. The moment she lifts the lid, Kallie’s life is changed forever as she rediscovers the true magic and meaning of Christmas ...

A GUARDED LOVE by Adelia Burke, Blog Tour

A GUARDED LOVE by Adelia Burke. It's been awhile since I've joined a blog tour, and this book sounded interesting. I will admit that I had a harder time getting into it than I expected. Once I did, it was a pretty good read. I did find it difficult to feel as worried about one of the characters as I think was expected. It made some of the tension a little unbelievable for me until the stakes were raised. Then the tension and fear made sense. It was a clean read that most people would enjoy. Let me know what your opinion is though. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

A WAGER FOR A WIFE by Karen Tuft

A WAGER FOR A WIFE by Karen Tuft. This was a delightful read. I wasn't sure how the title worked into the story or how exactly the wager worked into it. I tend to forget back cover blurbs or don't read them completely, so I realized not far into the story what the wager was. However, upon completion, the title meant even more than it did in the beginning. I loved getting to know the quiet William and his motivations behind his actions. I loved Lady Louisa's strength and courage to act honorably. And the ending was about as prefect as one could get. It did make me realize once again how important honor and the family name were back then. I think it's something we could all take a lesson from today. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a little wager, especially when it comes to love.

William Barlow's life has been forever altered: his estranged father is dead, and William has inherited the title of Viscount Farleigh. Along with the title comes a neglected estate, an enormous amount of gambling debt, and one astounding acquisition that will turn William's world upside down . . .
It is her first London Season, and Lady Louisa Hargreaves could not be more pleased. She has attracted the attention of the Earl of Kerridge, and the two are on the cusp of an official betrothal. That is, until she learns of a generations-old family debt: her grandfather gambled her hand in marriage and lost, and now Louisa must pay the price. She will marry not the earl but a man she just met, who has taken her freedom in one fell swoop. Even as she struggles to understand the handsome and aloof man she is to wed, Louisa is irresistibly drawn to him—and he to her. But she soon realizes he is harboring secrets, and as her wedding day approaches, she must discover what her future husband is hiding before she makes the gravest mistake of her life.

FOR SALE BY OWNER by Marlene Bateman — #bookreview #bookgiveaway

FOR SALE BY OWNER by Marlene Bateman. This was a very cute story. The characters are fun and easy to like. I liked the storyline and the twists that were scattered throughout. I was really happy with the finally twist at the end, although I wish it was seeded a little bit earlier in the story. This is a great, clean read for anyone that loves a sweet romance. I highly recommend it to those sweet romance people out there.

INFECTED by Gregg Luke — Book Review, Giveaway

INFECTED by Gregg Luke. This was an interesting read. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to read through it. The beginning was a little more gruesome that expected, and there was a lot of background stories that I didn't feel were completely necessary, although I understood why they were included. My body definitely tightened throughout the novel. I did feel like there were almost too many different points of view, although again, I understood why it was done in the way it was. It was a gripping read that had the pages turning. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to be on the edge of their seats and doesn't mind bit of mild gruesomeness.

Julia is baffled by her discovery—this organism has never appeared in humans. It shouldn't be possible. There is only one terrifying conclusion: The infection has jumped species.
Now, in this remote corner of the world, a contagion of unparalleled horror rests in Julia's hands. But even as she works to contain the organism that could spell devastation of apocalyptic proportions, there are others with a different agenda. They've learned of her discovery and will go to any lengths to acquire a sample—there is good money to be had in eco-terrorism.

UNDERCOVER TARGET by Frank Holdaway— review

UNDERCOVER TARGET by Frank Holdaway. What a fantastic story. I was hooked from the first page and had a hard time putting it down. The tension and suspense kept me on the edge the entire time. Everything from the adoption to the campout to the explosive battle at the end was extremely well done. Each character had a very unique, believable personality that planned an important role in the story. This is an exciting read that any and everyone would love, especially those suspense, adrenaline junkies, thriller people out there. I will definitely be finding his other book.

Deep in the rugged mountains of Utah, a band of mercenaries lies in wait. The target: Matt Knight. Their orders come from a dangerous enemy from the former agent's past, one who is bent on destroying everything Matt holds dear. While struggling to protect his son and the other Scouts, Matt is horrified to learn the full extent of the plan: his wife and baby have been taken too. Now the agent-turned-family-man must draw on his years of combat training in an explosive battle to save those he loves—or die trying.

THE FALL OF LORD DRAYSON by Rachael Anderson

The Fall of Lord Drayson The Fall of Lord Drayson by Rachael Anderson

I'm excited for this book. Stay tuned for my review!

Who is he really? A high and mighty lord or a lowly servant? When Colin Cavendish, the new earl of Drayson, informs Lucy Beresford that she and her mother need to vacate the house they've called home for the past two years, Lucy is fit to be tied. They have no money, no relations they can turn to for help, and nowhere to go. How dare the earl break the promise his father had made to the Beresfords without so much as a twinge of conscience? Fate plays her hand when Lucy discovers the earl unconscious and injured in the middle of the road. When he awakens with no recollection of who he is, Lucy seizes the opportunity to teach the earl a much-needed lesson in humility and tells him that he is nothing more than a mere servant. Her servant, in fact. And thus begins the charming tale of a pompous lord and an impetuous young woman, caught together in a web so tangled that it begs the question: Will they ever get out?

PLAYING FOR KEEPS by Ranee S Clark—#review #booksreviews #amreading

PLAYING FOR KEEPS by Ranee S Clark. This was such a good read. I devoured it and it keep me smiling for days. It's a cute football romance that even taught me a bit about football. All the characters were fun and easy to love from Ty and the Rocket to the more minor characters, like Rocket's mom. Their motivations were believable and the story seemed to weave itself. The only thing that felt a little forced was the creepy guy. He seemed to show up and I felt like the motivation there needed to be a little bit stronger. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, clean, fun romance.

Football-loving TyAnne Daws has long admired BYU's star quarterback from afar. This semester, she's determined to step away from the sidelines — and she has the perfect game plan for winning the heart of Anthony "Rocket" Rogers. When some smart moves land her in one of his classes, she finds herself in the perfect position to make her play. But as she gets to know the real Anthony, away from the lights of the stadium, Ty realizes that this is no game — she's falling in love.
Anthony takes full advantage of his all-star status, holding girls at arm's length for one reason: it keeps him from repeating the same mistakes that once led to a devastating heartbreak. When he meets Ty, his assumption that she's just another pretty face is quickly proven wrong. Though he's completely drawn in by this sweet young woman, her intriguing mix of amusing football know-how, and her quiet selflessness, he will not let himself fall in love. But when faced with the reality of losing the woman he's come to care for despite himself, Anthony's resolve is tested — and he finds it's getting harder to keep his head in the game when his heart's on the line.

Excerpt—I close the door behind me, shutting out the muggy Georgia air and the acrid smell of fireworks. A chill sweeps over me, and I welcome it. I'm not scared anymore. Another firework flashes, casting a red glow on the kitchen cabinets. I walk to the stairs, feeling my heart thud faster and faster, the palpitations Dr. Kovac told me about. The ground shakes, sending a tremor up my legs. It takes me back to the Jeep, to the smile on my dad's face as we zipped down the highway exactly one year ago tonight. That was the last of his smiles I ever saw. I let myself think about it. Make myself think about it. Difficulty breathing, a cold sweat. I feel it all in full, doing nothing to prevent this seizure. As ridiculous as it is, I want to see Austin, the Austin I met under a sky of fireworks who made life feel right again. I kneel beside my bed, burying my head in the down comforter as the aura of light fills my vision. At last, I feel that same spark I did on River Street when the light gives way and I see him.

The sheets were damp and cold as she climbed into bed, and as she lay shivering, she ached with loneliness. . . . Cassie lay listening to the creaking timbers of the old hotel, and tears slid down her face.

It doesn't matter what answers I find, she thought. Nothing will ever be the same.
It was in that twilight between wakefulness and sleep that she wondered how she could find any answers when she didn't even know the questions.

* * *

Cassie Van Cleeve is thirty-two years old, single, and comfortably settled into a demanding career that leaves little time for romance. Suddenly faced with two unexpected proposals of marriage, she finds herself caught in a whirlwind of emotions with a vital choice to make. Her decision takes Cassie on an adventure she could never have imagined as she seeks to solve a deadly puzzle and uncover the mysterious past of her new husband.
Author Liz Adair has shown herself to be a wonderful storyteller, and in The Mist of Quarry Harbor, she has crafted another fast-paced novel that will satisfy even the most avid mystery lovers. Set in the starkly beautiful Sonora Desert and the picturesque islands and waterways of Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, this romantic novel provides a visual as well as an emotional feast.
