This cute ladybug reminds me that holidays don't always turn out the way we want them to, and that's okay. I could see myself in the ladybug and took it as a reminder of what I need to focus on this Christmas season. I would recommend this to everyone.

MING'S CHRISTMAS WISHES by Susan L Gong. This is a beautiful story that gives a very good insight as to what it would be like as a child of an immigrant. It talks about melting two cultures beautifully. I will admit that it is a story I had to think about because of the different culture. I didn't know the details of how the Chinese culture celebrates Christmas. It is a very heartwarming, informative read.

Ming wishes for three things at Christmas. First, to sing in the school Christmas choir. Second, to have a Christmas tree like the one in the department store window. And third, to feel she belongs somewhere.

As a daughter of immigrants in 1930s California, Ming is often treated differently than other children at school. She's pointedly not invited to sing in the Christmas choir. At home, when Ming lobbies her parents for a Christmas tree, her mother scolds her for trying to be American. Ming doesn't seem to fit in anywhere: she's not quite American enough at school, not quite Chinese enough at home.

Seeing his daughter's unhappiness, Pop takes her into the mountains to visit a wise old friend. Always happy for an adventure with her kind father, Ming hopes to persuade Pop to bring home a mountain pine to be their Christmas tree. Getting on my blog every day was harder than I thought with my littles pulling me away, thinking I'm playing on my phone/computer and wanting to play too, and me falling asleep when I sit down. OLIVE by Michelle Wilson

OLIVE by Michelle Wilson. What a fun book. I love Olive. She sounds like me and my kids. When something goes wrong, it goes wrong and snowballs. It was wonderful to see her family's reaction to Olive at the end of the day when she felt so bad. And I loved the Stop and Think sections at the end of the book. It's a wonderful way to start a conversation with kids and help them understand things such as feelings and how to fix mistakes. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with children, (or without because we all of those "Olive" kind of days.)

SMARTER THAN A MONSTER by Brandon Mull.  This book is pure genius. Every child needs to read this book. It will cure any monster problems at home. Not only that, but it will help with other issues like taking baths, cleaning rooms, and other things that will help children understand how to be smarter than a monster. I would say it's this year's book to read.

MYSTERIES OF COVE: EMBERS OF DESTRUCTION by J. Scott Savage. This is an amazing ending to a great series. I have loved them (although I swore I read the second and upon reading the third I realized I hadn't, but I will!). I loved how everyone learned to work and depend on each other to figure out how to solve the dragon issue and then to execute the plan. They didn't give up when a plan failed. It was the try, try again that we so often forget to do in life. There are hard life lessons that are touched on, and the outcome was the way it needed to be. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

It's time to take the battle to the dragons.

MUSTACHES FOR MADDIE by Chad Morris and Shelly Brown. Wow. This book is amazing. It touches on things that are personal for the authors yet shares a very strong message on how to help kids deal with scary things. The humor had me laughing throughout and getting teary at the same time. Life has lots of scary things, though not everyone deals with a brain tumor, most kids deal with bullying of some type. There are many powerful lessons throughout. This is a must read to anyone who has children, associates with children, has influence with children, really everyone. I highly suggest this book for everyone of all ages. It is a great read for book clubs and to read with little ones. I cannot say enough good about this book. Please check it out.

WESTLY: A SPIDER'S TALE by Bryan Beus. This was a very cute tale that shows life doesn't always go the way we think it should or plan on it going. Things change and it shows how this spider who grew up thinking he was a butterfly adapted to the changes life threw at him. It's a great story that illustrates how to be flexible with what life throws at you. It's a great read for any and everyone.

VISIONS OF HOPE by Annie Henrie. This beautiful book contains some wonderful artwork coupled with inspiring scriptures and truth. The pictures were a little different than my taste and they didn't hold my son's interest as much as I would have liked them too, but the artist is obviously very talented. Everyone should take a look at her work.

JANITORS: STRIKE OF THE SWEEPERS by Tyler Whitesides. I have really enjoyed this series and this latest installment has not let me down. It's a fun, quick read full of action, suspense, and page-turning excitement. I thought this might be the one to round out the series but an unforseen twist at the end has left me waiting for the next one. I would recommend this to any and everyone who loves a great, clean, exciting story.

This is a delightful story about a place where dogs live. My three-year-old loved it. The pictures are beautifully done and the story is equal to it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has children or anyone who loves a good picture book.

CHRISTMAST FROM HEAVEN as read by Tom Brokaw. This fantastic story is so moving. There are still really good people out there. I loved all the pictures, and it came with a DVD of when Tom Brokaw told the story of the Candy Bomber during the First Presidency Christmas Devotional last year. My son watched it and now refers to the "Candy Man" show and book. I would highly recommend this book for any and everyone who loves a good, inspirational, true story.

Christmas from Heaven is the story of the humble beginnings of what became a beacon of hope to a war-torn land, the story of Gail Halvorsen, a young pilot in the US Army Air Corps who was assigned as a cargo pilot to the Berlin Airlift, in which US forces flew much-needed supplies into a Soviet-blockaded Berlin.

As he performed his duties, Lt. Halvorsen began to notice the German children gathered by the fences of Tempelhof Air Base. Knowing that they had very little, he one day offered them some chewing gum. From that small act, an idea sprang: He would "bomb" Berlin with candy. Fashioning small parachutes, he and his crew sent them floating down as they approached the Berlin airport, wiggling the wings of their C-54 as a signal to the children that their anticipated cargo would soon arrive.

Lt. Halvorsen became known by hundreds, if not thousands, of children in Berlin as "Uncle Wiggly Wings" or "The Candy Bomber." Word soon spread, and donations of candy and other supplies poured in from sympathetic Americans. Lt. Halvorsen's small idea became a great symbol of hope not only to German children in a bombed-out city but to all those who yearned for freedom.

Famed broadcast journalist and author Tom Brokaw brings this remarkable true story to life in a stunning live performance with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, captured on the accompanying DVD. Also included in the book is a template and directions for creating your own “Candy Bomber” parachutes.

The Biblical Names of Christ Ornament Set was beautiful. I thought of many different ways of using it, i.e. putting one star on a gift for someone, putting them in a wreath, using them on a Christmas tree. In the end, my son helped me string the stars on a ribbon and they are strung across the wall where we can see them everyday, kind of like a garland. These ornaments would make a great gift and/or addition to any family tradition. Take a look here.

EVERTASTER by Adam Glendon Sidwell. This delicious book had my mouth drooling from the very beginning. I loved the descriptions of all the different food involved. Guster was a great character that had my stomach aching for a taste of something good. The family was wonderful, the places even more tastey. This book is for anyone who eats any type of fun. It's a great, fun read for all ages. Just beware, after you read it, you'll be very hungry! I can't wait for the next installment. :)

I really enjoyed this book. It's such a creative concept. The characters are fun. The setting is wonderful, and any kids or adult will love being swept away into this fantastic world of Toxites. It makes school fun. I highly recommend it for all ages. Be sure to check back for my review of JANITORS: Curse fo the Broomstaff, coming next month.
