THE CHRISTMAS APRON. I really enjoyed this movie. It brought up a lot of good questions from my older children. It shows service and love at it's highest, as well as the blessings that can come from that service. It is short, but packed with lots of great teaching opportunities. I would highly recommend it.

It’s nearly Christmas, and the seven children in Millie’s family can’t wait for Grandma to arrive with her special Christmas apron, newly pressed and filled with generations of holiday memories. According to tradition, each grandchild will carefully write down the gift he or she wants most in the world, and then slip that wish into the apron’s frilled pocket. Then, on Christmas morning, those wished-for gifts will be waiting under the tree—like magic. Little Will wants Lincoln Logs; nine-year-old Grace wants a horse of her very own. Even eleven-year-old Millie, who’s too old to believe in magic, has a precious wish in mind—a pair of silky pink toe shoes. 

But one dark evening, Millie overhears a worrisome conversation between her parents: due to wartime shortages, the family can’t afford gifts for all the little ones. She pictures the terrible disappointment on her siblings’ faces: no toys or games or art supplies to open on Christmas morning (and certainly no horse for Grace!) From that point on, she wrestles with a terrible question: Is she willing to sacrifice her own whole-soul wish so that someone else’s can come true? Full of tender emotion and delightful surprise, this story reminds us of the miracles that unfold when we think of others before ourselves.

CHRISTMAS BREAK-IN

CHRISTMAS BREAK-IN. My kids have been asking to see this movie since they saw it in the store. They were very excited. This was a very cute, family-friendly movie. There were a couple of parts I had to remind my kids that it was pretend (over-active imaginations make even the simpliest things that are obviously pretend seem real), but the rest of it was fun. I think our favorite part, or at least the part we laughed the most in, was the takeouts at the end. It is a movie I would recommend to anyone who loves a fun, Christmas movie.

Today was supposed to be one of the best days ever for nine-year-old Izzy Rush. But now, on the last day of class before Christmas break, she has been left alone at school. To make matters worse, the biggest blizzard this town has ever seen is hitting full force. Which is why three bumbling crooks on the lam decide to take shelter in the seemingly empty school. When Izzy discovers that the criminals are holding her friend and school custodian, Ray, hostage, she decides it's up to her to save the day. But what can a nine-year-old girl do? You'd be surprised!

FROM ASH AND STONE by Julie Daines

FROM ASH AND STONE by Julie Daines. This was a really good story. I liked Lady Margaret and really felt for her situation. Angus was a really fun character too. I loved how sticky he was. Their situation showed how hard it was to live during those border wars and how truly one day someone was an enemy and the next the same was an ally. The only problem I had was how quickly her feelings shifted both ways. I guess I didn't feel things as strongly as Lady Margaret did, but as I look back on the story, I can see why it happened. It is a wonderful story full of defiance, love, acceptance, and learning to let others in that I would recommend to anyone who loves a great story.

Lady Margaret Grey of Hartfell wants for nothing. The daughter of a knight, she has a loving family, wealth, and even a secret romance with the blacksmith's son. But all that is torn from her one fateful night when her home is attacked and her family killed. She is left with nothing but bitterness, an unwavering mistrust of men, and a strange and mysterious curse that allows her to feel the thoughts of anyone who touches her.

Now, after six years away, Margaret is returning home for one reason: revenge. She hopes that by avenging her family's deaths, she will somehow be freed from her curse. But it won't be easy. the identities of the raiders are still unknown, she has little left to her name, and traveling alone in the Northumbrian hills during the border wars is dangerous. Matters are further complicated by handsome Angus Robson, a Scotsman whose charm threatens to distract her from her plans. But the raiders are closer than she knows, and Margaret soon realizes that what she believed to be a curse may be the key to finding those she seeks. One touch will reveal the truth.

A WAGER FOR A WIFE by Karen Tuft

A WAGER FOR A WIFE by Karen Tuft. This was a delightful read. I wasn't sure how the title worked into the story or how exactly the wager worked into it. I tend to forget back cover blurbs or don't read them completely, so I realized not far into the story what the wager was. However, upon completion, the title meant even more than it did in the beginning. I loved getting to know the quiet William and his motivations behind his actions. I loved Lady Louisa's strength and courage to act honorably. And the ending was about as prefect as one could get. It did make me realize once again how important honor and the family name were back then. I think it's something we could all take a lesson from today. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a little wager, especially when it comes to love.

LIES, LOVE, AND BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S by Julie Wright. I should have known better than to start Julie's book when I didn't really have time to just sit and read. Less than a day later, I had devoured it. My kids came home from school too early and naps not long enough, but I couldn't read it fast enough. This was an incredible fun story. I always enjoy being where I haven't been and this book was all over that. I loved Silvia's drive, and Ben's loyalty and how everything turned out in the end. For a couple of chapters I thought I would be mad at the ending, but it ended perfectly. I highly recommend this book.

THE GEM THIEF by Sian Ann Bessey

THE GEM THIEF by Sian Ann Bessey. This was a very engaging read. I sat back and enjoyed everything about it. Who wouldn't love a Mediterranean cruise. It was fun to read about an industry I really know nothing about, and to learn about it mixed with suspense, romance, and the location, you can't go wrong. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to travel with some romantic suspense in the mix. I will be looking into more books by this author.

SQUINT by Chad Morris and Shelly Brown

SQUINT by Chad Morris and Shelly Brown. This was an incredible story. It had me captivated till the end. The timid relationship between Flint and McKell is amazing to see develop. How they both help to push one another in their own struggles, and help build and support one another is a powerful lesson that we could all use more of in our lives. I would recommend this book to any and everyone. Absolutely amazing.

The hero of my comic book can shoot lasers from his eyes when he squints. But it might not be enough to save the Empress. What he'll need most of all is a friend named Diamond Girl.

Flint loved to draw. In fact, he's furiously trying to finish his comic book so he can be the youngest winner of the "Find a Comic Star" contest. He's also rushing to finish because he has an eye disease that could eventually make him blind.

At school, Flint meets McKell. She's new and doesn't seem to have trouble making friends. She does have a problem with how some of her new friends treat this boy they call "Squint." He seems nice and really talented. He also seems like the kind of person who wouldn't laugh at you. That's important, because McKell has hidden talents of her own but is worried about what will happen is she shares them.

Squint is the inspiring story of two new friends dealing with their own challenges who learn to trust each other, believe in themselves, and begin to truly see what matters most.
