BETWEEN NOW AND NEVER by Laura Johnston— #bookreview #books #amreading

BETWEEN NOW AND NEVER by Laura Johnston. For whatever reason something didn't sit right with me for this novel. I loved the characters. I loved the situation. Laura did a great job weaving the characters through their story (although I felt like the heroine was a bit too trusting) but I still can't put my finger on what it was that still makes me question this novel. It was a fun read and I'm sure most everyone would enjoy it.

:) :) :)

Buh boom, buh boom.

My heart thrusts with a force that takes me by surprise. Telling me something I don’t understand. A splitting pain, a longing to slip back under. They tell me I was in a hit-and-run, but I can’t remember what happened that night.  All I know is that I woke up with pictures in my pocket, a card from one of those photo booths in the mall. And I’m in the pictures. Cody Rush. Me and…

Julianna.

Her brother was there that night, and my dad, the FBI agent, was the one who put her mom behind bars. What’s the connection? And why won’t Julianna talk to me now? Somehow, she holds the key to it all, and getting close–real close—to her for the answers I need will be no hardship at all…

You may be curious about what this fabulous book could be about, well here is the back cover blurb:

A convict’s daughter should never fall for an FBI agent’s son, certainly not a teenager like Julianna Schultz who is furious over her mother’s incarceration and the injustice of it all. But that’s exactly what seventeen-year-old Julianna finds herself doing when Cody Rush, the cocky son of the FBI agent who put her mom behind bars, moves into her hometown of Gilbert, Arizona.

Cody Rush—studious, principled, athletic, good looking and blond to boot—is everything Julianna hates, or so she thinks. Yet a series of ill-fated events one night brings them dangerously close, entangling the futures of two people who were never meant to be.

REWIND TO YOU by Laura Johnston—Book Review/#giveaway/#amreading

Rewind to You by Laura Johnston. This is a really sweet love story. Once I got into it I couldn't put it down. Very interesting circumstances that pull these two together and I love seeing the growth on both characters parts. I would recommend this clean romance to anyone who loves a story that will make you cry and smile at the same time.

:) :) :) :) :)

One last summer before college on beautiful Tybee Island is supposed to help Sienna forget. But how can she? This is where her family spent every summer before everything changed, before the world as she knew it was ripped away. But the past isn’t easily left behind. Especially when Sienna keeps having episodes that take her back to the night she wants to forget. Even when she meets the mysterious Austin Dobbs, the guy with the intense blue eyes, athlete's body, and weakness for pralines who scooped her out of trouble when she blacked out on River Street. When she's with Austin, Sienna feels a whole new world opening up to her. Austin has secrets, and she has history. But caught between the past and the future, Sienna can still choose what happens now.

Excerpt—I close the door behind me, shutting out the muggy Georgia air and the acrid smell of fireworks. A chill sweeps over me, and I welcome it. I'm not scared anymore. Another firework flashes, casting a red glow on the kitchen cabinets. I walk to the stairs, feeling my heart thud faster and faster, the palpitations Dr. Kovac told me about. The ground shakes, sending a tremor up my legs. It takes me back to the Jeep, to the smile on my dad's face as we zipped down the highway exactly one year ago tonight. That was the last of his smiles I ever saw. I let myself think about it. Make myself think about it. Difficulty breathing, a cold sweat. I feel it all in full, doing nothing to prevent this seizure. As ridiculous as it is, I want to see Austin, the Austin I met under a sky of fireworks who made life feel right again. I kneel beside my bed, burying my head in the down comforter as the aura of light fills my vision. At last, I feel that same spark I did on River Street when the light gives way and I see him.
